About Us
The Mid-Michigan Youth Symphony is a symphonic orchestra comprised of young people from the Mid- Michigan Area who share a common interest in performing orchestral music. Students come from public school and home school programs from the Greater Lansing Area and beyond. MMYS provides an opportunity for middle school and high school string, wind and percussion students to rehearse weekly and perform two concerts a year.
Who We Are |
Currently, the MMYS is happy to call East Lansing High School and the East Lansing Public Schools its home. Through the support of the school district we are able to hold weekly rehearsals in the band room at East Lansing High School and concerts in the East Lansing Center for the Performing Arts. Once a year we perform an outreach concert to a local school district and collaborate with their music programs.

Our History |
Our orchestra, once called the Lansing Junior Symphony, was founded in 1957 as an "all-city" orchestra for the Lansing Public School District. The orchestra was established as an ensemble that offers additional opportunities for performing experiences, while fully supporting public school music programs. The orchestra continues to serve as an “in addition to” and not “instead of” school music performing groups.
